Information and messages posted in social networking services have been selected from the key phrase concerning the ecological state of the country’s regions. The findings were used in generating the database containing both spatial and attributive evidence for the regions of the Russian Federation. This data base served as a basis for the construction of a series of maps. The topical character of this research lies in the fact that information and messages in social networking services provide exceptionally important and useful information as regards the study of the social and political situation and general tendencies in society, for a particular group of population (these groups can be identified according to the age, the place of residence, etc.). Maps are a pictorial rendition of such information. The subjects for study in this paper are represented by the images of territories in the context of their ecological state as perceived by users of social networking services, such as LiveJournal and Twitter.Keywords: Russia’s regions, images of Internet, ecological state.
