Ecosystems in the south of Lake Baikal in the process of adaptation to anthropogenic impacts

An analysis is made of the adaptation processes of the ecosystems in the southern part of Lake Baikal, based on using an overview of available data series and the most obvious indicators of anthropogenic changes in the general state of the individual components of ecosystems, and the dynamics of the amount and quality of pollutants. A treatment of the most known factors, such as the water-level rise after the construction of the Irkutsk Hydro dam (a time-coincident, uniform impact on the entire ecosystem of the lake), the influence on the forest ecosystems along the southern shores during the air transport of atmospheric industrial emissions from the Baikalsk paper and pulp mill (substantial but local, in the form of disturbances that manifest themselves mosaically), and a disturbance of the hydrochemical regime due to discharges of effluents in the southern part of the lake’s water body, used a simple model to assess, in a first approximation, the possible scenarios of development of the adaptation processes.
