The geoinformation system as a tool for developing the federal television broadcasting strategy (as exemplified by the «Rossiya» television channel)

We consider the possibility of using the geoinformation method in investigating the images of Russian regions in federal television news. Based on statistical data on the number of names of the subjects of the Russian Federation mentioned in the text archives of the “Vesti” program for the year 2007, we constructed maps illustrating the quantitative and thematic inhomogeneity of coverage of events from the regions. We substantiate the possibility of implementing a GIS as a tool for analyzing and mode¬ling the images of Russia’s regions in the mass media as well as for developing the federal broadcasting strategy for state-owned news services.
