The formation conditions and evolution of the Amur basin

T.V. Artemenko and A.P. Sorokin

We examine the formation conditions and evolution of the Amur basin. It is shown that the formation of the Amur valley has gone through three stages: riftogenic (Mid-Jurassic–Early Cretaceous), platform (Late Cretaceous–Paleocene), and neotectonics (Eocene–Quaternary). The most ancient fragments of the hydronetwork were recorded within the riftogenic depressions of the Zeya-Bureya basin. The subsequent evolution involved major restructurings of the eastern termination of Eurasia which were responsible for the contemporary configuration of the Amur basin.
