The biogeochemistry of ornithogenic geosystems of the Yam Islands (Sea of Okhotsk)

An analysis is made of the biochemical characteristics of structural and functional organization of geosystems evolving on small islands with large clusters of colonial sea birds. Matykil Island (Yam Archipelago, Sea of Okhotsk) was chosen as the main object of investigation, where an area of 6 km2 is occupied by 8 mil. nesting birds. It is confirmed that ornithogenic pressure leads to an increase in the reserves of herbaceous phytomass, a decrease in species diversity of phytocenoses, a succession from polydominant to monodominant phytocenoses out of the ornithophilic species, a high variability of biochemical parameters, and to an increased amount of mineral substances in plants.
