Modeling of changes in temperature and hydrological regimes of subsurface permafrost, using the climate data (reanalysis)

Based on the reanalysis data prepared by the European Centre Weather Forecasts ERA-40 and on the developed permafrost model (which permits calculating characteristics of thermal and hydrological regimes of soil forced by the atmospheric state) the numerical experiments on the simulation of the seasonal thawing depth in the Northern Hemisphere during 1960–2000 have been carried out. The simulated values of active layer depth are in agreement with the measured data of some stations. A substantial deepening of the active layer during the last four decades of the 20th century at Alaska has been established.
