Soil temperature is one of the most important geocryological parameters. It displays the sensitivity of landscapes to anthropogenic influence and climatic fluctuations. The main stages of the development of soil temperature monitoring in Russia have been reconstructed. The secular observations for the response of 1/6 part of Earth surface to air temperature fluctuations are unique on a global scale.
